19 апреля 1817 г., после вечера у мадам де Сталь, где присутствовали, в частности, Александр фон Гумбольдт, Август Шлегель и Хемфри Дэви, Джордж Тикнор записал, что после выхода книги де Прадта «в Париже все говорят» о Южной Америке. Надежды аббата на скорейшее освобождение колоний разделяют «все республиканцы Парижа» во главе с мадам де Сталь.
